Barents Sea:Statoil joins Gazprom and Rosneft in gas ventures

Statoil plans to join forces with Gazprom and Rosneft in tapping gasfields in both the Russian and Norwegian sectors of the Barents Sea.The plan is to exploit huge gas reserves for export to the US in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).A memorandum of understanding,signed in September by the heads of all three companies,calls for Statoil,Rosneft and Gazprom to work together at the giant Schtokmanovskoye gasfield,offshore northwestern Russia,and at Sn0hvit off Norway.
