Gas pipeline takes shape

The governments of Greece and Turkey have formally signed a I deal to build a 285-km pipeline that will carry natural gas from Azerbaijan through Turkey to Greece,and on to other European countries,through Italy.The Turkish energy minister,Hilmi Guler,said at the signing ceremony,in Ankara,that the pipeline-Interconnector Turkey & Greece(ITC)-should become operational in 2006.Initially,the ITC pipeline will deliver 0.75bn cubic meters a year(cm/y)of natural gas to Greece from Azerbaijan.
