Indonesia taps LNG to meet gas shortfall

Indonesia is increasingly turning to LNG imports as natural gas demand forecasts point to a growing domestic shortfall. State-owned energy company Pertamina plans to secure around another 4mn t/yr of LNG to meet rising Indonesian gas demand, increasing the amount that it will receive by about 50pc to 12mn t/yr from 2020. Its plans are based on a demand growth forecast of around 5-6pc/ yr, which translates to a 4bn ft~3/d (41bn m~3/yr) gas supply shortfall by 2025.
