Canada's latest forecast that it will double crude output to 6.2mn b/d by 2030 faces a combination of domestic and international political challenges. Oil sands are key behind the growth forecast by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (Capp), which raised its estimates from last year's report and extended its forecast period to 2030. Canada's oil sands output will rise from 1.6mn b/d in 2011 to 3.2mn b/d by 2020 and 5mn b/d by 2030. Even if only projects now under construction proceed, output will still jump by 54pc by 2020, the report says.
