Rosneft and Socar sign co-operation deal

Russia’s state-controlled Rosneft and Azeri state-owned Socar have agreed to co-operate over energy issues in Russia, Azerbaijan and beyond, but have yet to single out projects. Rosneft chief executive Igor Sechin signed a five-year deal with his Socar counterpart Rovnag Abdullayev in the presence of Russian president Vladimir Putin and Azeri president Ilham Aliyev in Baku on 13 August. Private-sector firm Lukoil is currently the only Russian oil company active in Azerbaijan. The deal also covers joint operation of unnamed export pipelines and terminals and co-operation in marketing.
