US SEC proposes transparency rule

US securities regulator the SEC plans to propose a new rule this year requiring oil companies to disclose payments made to governments worldwide. It hopes to finalise the rule by 27 June. The move is in response to a court order requiring the regulator to speed up the issuing of the new rule (WPA, 11 September, p10).
