Domestic energy focus belies growing import dependence

India has embarked on an energy selfsufficiency drive despite the reality of scarce domestic oil and gas resources and a muddled policy framework to exploit them. Ambitious renewable energy targets to cover the shortfall ignore the fact the country and its economic prospects are deeply aligned with fossil fuels.
