US LNG pioneer Cheniere Energy has ousted longstanding chief executive Charif Souki, just months before it sends the first LNG exports from the US Gulf coast. Souki’s ambitious plans brought the company to brink of bankruptcy several years ago, but then paved the way for it to become the US’ first major LNG exporter. But Cheniere’s board and activist investor Carl Icahn want to move the company in a more conservative direction amid lower oil and gas energy prices and the imminent start-up of LNG exports from its Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana.
