IMF pushes energy subsidy reform

Emerging and developing oil importers could save 1pc of GDP this year if they take advantage of lower crude prices to reduce energy subsidies,IMF managing director Christine Lagarde says.The global economy is growing moderately but unevenly.The 3.4pc growth achieved last year was roughly in line with the average for the past three dec-ades.But Lagarde warns of the risks of a“new mediocre”,marked by low growth over a long period of time.
