US offshore regulator the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) is proposing a new rule designed to strengthen the safety of offshore oil and gas production systems. In an effort to catch up with technological advances that have allowed operators to produce oil in water depths of up to 9,000ft (2,743m), the BSEE has proposed an update to the regulations that govern safety equipment on production systems and sub-surface devices, as well as the testing procedures for that equipment.
