Tanzania emerging as LNG exporter

The UK’s BG has discovered an estimated recoverable gas resource of almost 13 trillion ft3 (368bn m~3) based on seven discoveries at three blocks offshore Tanzania and plans to build an LNG project in the country. The LNG project is likely to be developed with Norwe- gian state-controlled energy firm Statoil, which has made similar recoverable gas finds in block 2 next to BG’s hold- ings. Africa’s east coast holds huge amounts of untapped gas reserves, with exploration programmes currently evalu- ating Tanzania and Mozambique’s offshore resources.
