Rosneft gambles on gas in Brazil

Russian state-controlled Rosneft has taken an ambitious step in Brazil by becoming the operator of a gas explora tion project in the remote Amazon region, after increasing its stake in the Solimoes project to 51pc. Rosneft Brazil has agreed with Brazil’s HRT, Solimoes’ former operator, to boost its stake by 6pc, taking control and opera torship. Rosneft and HRT aim to final-ise the deal in January.
