Sub-Saharan Africa floats new investments

Floating LNG (FLNG) production facilities are being developed in sub-Saharan Africa as firms seek to drive down development costs. Planned new FLNG projects in Mozambique, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea are being approved more quickly than larger, costlier and more complex traditional onshore LNG plants. And by taking LNG production offshore, project operators will potentially avoid problems that have hit Nigeria, the region’s leading LNG producer. Attacks on onshore pipelines that supply gas to the 22mn t/yr Nigeria LNG plant frequently disrupt the facility’s operations.
