The US Interior Department is proposing stricter rules governing blowout prevent-ers and well control for offshore oil and gas operations.The failure of the blow-out preventer on BP’s Macondo well was a key contributor to the 2010 disas-ter that killed 11 workers and sparked the worst oil spill in US offshore history (WPA,28 March 2011,p3).
