US independent Anadarko Petroleum has pushed back first exports of LNG from Mozambique to 2019 from its original 2018 target. The delay highlights the problems faced by companies planning major LNG projects in the country and neighbouring Tanzania. Anadarko is operator of Mozambique’s offshore block 1 in the Rovuma basin. The firm is planning an initial twotrain onshore 10mn t/yr plant, which will also use gas supply from Italian energy firm Eni’s offshore block 4. Anadarko is waiting for the newly elected government of President Filipe Nyusi to pass the decree law that will specify the contractual and legal outline for the LNG project.
