Alaska unveils ANWR exploration plan

Alaska governor Sean Parnell wants the Obama administration to open a portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil and gas drilling, ending a decades-long ban. Parnell is pushing a seven-year plan to explore ANWR’s 1.5mn acre (6,000km2) coastal plain, known as the 1002 area. Parnell wants the US administration to include his pro- posal as a possible option in an updated comprehensive conservation plan the US Interior Department’s Fish and Wildlife Service is preparing for the refuge.
