Anadarko diverges from peers on growth

US independent Anadarko Petroleum and some of its peers are selling billions of dollars in assets.But Ana-darko has maintained a rapid pace of oil and gas produc-tion growth alongside its portfolio reduction strategy. Anadarko has raised its full-year output forecast for the second time in three months,after posting a 13pc rise in second-quarter production to 848,000 b/d of oil equivalent (boe/d)from a year earlier.Among the five other US inde-pendents producing over 600,000 boe/d at the start of this year,two saw declines in the first and second quarters,and none is growing at a rate as high as 13pc(see p2). The company’s profit in April-June fell on the year by 76pc to$227mn,despite the record output.But the fall mainly reflects a tax charge and a cut to the valuation of hedging contracts.Excluding one-off items,its second-quarter profit rose by 25pc to$669mn from the previous year.
