Natural gas is “a winner among fossil fuels,” Norway’s Sta- toil says in its Energy Perspectives outlook. It expects the fuel to displace coal and oil over the next two decades as government policies favour lower-carbon energy sources. Leaders meeting at this week’s summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow proclaim gas “the answer to 21st century sustainable development challenges”. Yet the future of gas in the global energy mix remains uncertain — inhibiting investment decisions for producers and consumers.
