Iraqi Kurdistan halts crude exports

Crude exports from Iraq’s semi-autono- mous Kurdish region stopped in the week starting 23 December. A Kurdis- tan Regional Government (KRG) offi- cial earlier said the Iraqi federal gov- ernment’s failure to reimburse oil firms operating in the area had caused a dras- tic reduction in exports. The federal government has paid the KRG a first instalment of 650bn Iraqi dinars ($560mn) to reimburse producing com- panies, but has not paid the second instalment of almost $300mn, he said.
