Costs rise from Japan nuclear closures

Japan’s government says the prolonged shutdown of the country’s nuclear power sector will add ￥3.6 trillion ($37bn) to utilities’ fuel costs in the current fiscal year. The trade and industry ministry expects total fuel costs for utilities with shut reactors to hit ￥7.5 trillion in the fiscal year ending 31 March 2014, accounting for 19pc of their total operational costs.
