Moscow urges Gazprom to strike deal with CNPC

Russia’s government is urging state-controlled Gazprom to reach an agreement with Chinese state-owned CNPC on pipeline gas exports, in a move that could benefit Russia’s other gas producers. “It is high time for Gazprom to agree on the price and begin pipeline exports to China,” Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev said on 22 October after a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang. Gazprom and CNPC have made little progress on discussions opened in 2005 (WPA, 20 July 2012, p9).
