Oman’s oil and gas ministry has awarded exploration and productionsharing agreements (Epsas) for onshore blocks 39 and 67 to US firm Petrotel. The blocks cover 13,379km2 within the Dhofar governorate. The government will not have any financial commitment during exploration. The two blocks were offered in bidding rounds in 2009 and 2010, but interest faded because of the global financial crisis. Rising oil prices since then have helped Muscat attract companies. Petrotel was awarded an Epsa for offshore block 40 in August 2011.
