BP mends bridges in Azerbaijan

BP is buttressing its position in Azerbaijan’s upstream oil and gas sector, after facing criticism from President Ilham Aliyev over missed oil targets. The BP-led AIOC consortium is under fire over low output from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) fields, which Baku says has cost it over $8bn in lost revenue. “We see numbers that are significantly different from those planned, so either the project was conceived improperly or activities carried out to stabilise oil production are insufficient,” Azeri energy minister Natig Aliyev said at a conference in Baku this week. Aliyev calls for stronger control at ACG.
