Malaysia has increased subsidised diesel and gasoline prices for the first time in a year, trying to rein in its subsidy burden with the 10pc rise to help balance its budget. Prime minister Najib Razak had pledged economic reforms, including cuts to fuel subsidies, since returning to power last year (WPA, 3 May 2013, p7).
