Cheniere buys into Chilean LNG project

US firm Cheniere Energy has bought a 50pc stake in southern Chile’s Octopus LNG project, following a $10mn capital increase by its now 50pc partner, Chile’s Andes Mining and Energy (AME). The proposed $150mn terminal off the city of Concepcion would consist of a 170,000-175,000m~3 floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) that would deliver around 15mn m~3/d of gas. Cheniere would supply the FSRU from its planned Sabine Pass terminal in Lou- isiana on the US Gulf Coast.
