Norway, UK investment booming

The Norwegian and UK upstream sectors are experiencing a boom in investment and asset transfers, UK-based consultancy Wood Mackenzie says. An estimated $25bn was spent on development projects offshore Norway last year, much of it directed at improving recovery from producing fields. Wood Mackenzie has not finalised its estimate of UK development capital expenditure for 2012, but says it was comparable in real terms with the mid- 1970s. It forecasts $60bn of offshore development spending in the UK in 2012-15, driven by government tax incentives and the increasing technical complexity of projects.
