Gazprom takes South Stream FIDs

Russia and Hungary took a final investment decision (FID) on the South Stream gas pipeline on 31 Octo- ber, when state-controlled Gazprom and Hungarian state-owned utility MVM signed a new shareholder deal for the 229km Hungarian section. Gazprom signed a South Stream FID with Serbia on 29 October. It plans to begin construction in December, but the line must first undergo EU envi- ronmental impact assessments (EIAs).
