BG deal expands Shell opportunities

North America and Australia will be the key focus for Shell’s enlarged LNG busi-ness if its deal to buy UK company BG goes through.The proposed takeover puts Shell on course to become the first major exporter of US LNG. BG has signed 20-year contracts for up to 5.5mn t/yr from the Sabine Pass export project in Louisiana,which is due to start commercial operations in early 2016.And it has the rights to all of the 15mn t/yr of planned capacity at the Lake Charles project,also in Louisiana.
