Pemex appoints new upstream manager

Mexico’s state-owned oil company Pemex on 10 February appointed Gus-tavo Hernandez Garcia as Pemex Explo-ration and Production’s(PEP)new man-ager,replacing Carlos Morales Gil,who held the post since 2004.Hernandez is a 21-year veteran at Pemex. Morales presided over the final fatal decline of Cantarell,the firm’s main field since 1981,and Pemex’s quest for a viable field replacement. Hernandez collaborated closely with Morales in assessing the financial viabil-ity of Pemex deposits,a job he began in 2010.Morales’Pemex stewardship included a decision to opt out of massive investment in the challenging onshore Chicontepec region and towards new developments in both shallow and deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
