Libya is using its oil wealth to reinforce relations with its neighbours, although production problems, strikes and attacks are threatening these goals. Strike action and protests in the past two months have caused major disrup- tions to the country’s oil production. Output at the 130,000 b/d Elephant field, operated by Mellitah Oil and Gas, is yet to resume, having been shut in by protests since the end of May (WPA, 14 June, p8).
