Canada attracts Atlantic interest

Exploration prospects offshore the east- ern Canadian province of Nova Scotia attracted record investments from oil majors in 2012, signalling an exploration boom that could rival that of its higher profile neighbour Newfoundland. Shell and BP have together commit- ted over C$2bn ($2bn) to explore a dozen Nova Scotia offshore and deepwater prospects. BP’s $1.05bn commitment in November to drill over six years, trumped a $970mn commitment by Shell in Janu- ary last year, signalling a turnaround for a region where exploration has hitherto been limited and often delayed.
