Court denies BP spill payment request

A US judge has rejected BP’s motion to suspend more than $130mn in pay-ments to a Gulf coast oil spill claims fund created to compensate victims of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster. US district court judge Carl Barbier late on 7 August affirmed a ruling issued earlier by magistrate Sally Shushan denying BP’s request to waive a quarterly payment to the court-super-vised settlement programme.
