TransCanada faces Keystone XL delay to 2016

The potential start-up of Calgary-based TransCanada’s 830,000 b/d Keystone XL pipeline from Alberta to the US mid- continent could be further delayed to 2016 because of US permitting delays. TransCanada previously estimated that the line would start up in late 2014 or early 2015, but later revised that to the second half of 2015. The project crosses an international boundary, so construc- tion requires approval from the US State Department and President Barack Obama. But the timeline for the approval, or its inevitability, is uncertain.
