Independents grow on tight oil

US upstream independents are seeing more gains in production as expanded onshore drilling programmes in North America yield results and over- seas disruptions that cut output in the past year are resolved. Anadarko Petroleum raised its full- year production forecast for a second straight quarter after settlement of a tax dispute lifted volumes in Algeria, the Caesar-Tonga platform came on stream in the Gulf of Mexico, and tight oil output advanced in the Wattenberg field of Colorado. Second-quarter production rose by 8pc on the year to a record 742,000 b/d of oil equivalent (boe/d).
