Fall in GHG emissions for majors

Oil majors achieved sharp reductions in their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions last year, continuing a trend that has resulted in their operational emissions falling dramatically since 2007. Operational GHG emissions for the six largest US and European oil compa-nies fell by 3pc last year to just over 362mn t CO2 equivalent (CO2e), accord-ing to the latest figures published by the firms (see table). In absolute terms, the yearly fall represents around 10mn t CO2e, thanks to reductions in the flaring of unwanted gas, asset sales and tempo-rary shutdowns. The firms’ GHG emis-sions have fallen by 10pc, or 42mn t CO2e, in absolute terms since 2007.
