Long-term future for oil

Opec says domestic spending pressures will not prevent its members from making the investments needed to meet increasing long-term oil demand. Opec's latest "reference scenario" sees global energy demand rising by over 50pc in 2010-35, with oil retaining the largest share for most of that period, although this falls to 28pc from 34pc. Oil will remain central to transportation for the "foreseeable future", secretary-general Abdullah al-Badri says.
