Shell increases targeted job cuts

Shell plans to axe a further 2,200 jobs worldwide this year, as it continues to adapt its cost structure to lower oil prices and eradicate duplication, following its $54bn takeover of UK company BG. The latest cull will bring the total cut in Shell’s staff and direct contractor headcount to 12,500 in 2015-16, up from previous guidance of 10,300. Shell cut 7,500 staff and direct contractor roles last year in response to the fall in oil prices and identified an additional 2,800 of potential staff reductions this year, as part of the BG integration process.
