US limits methane leaks from new oil, gas sources

US environmental regulator the EPA has finalised requirements for oil and gas companies to limit methane emissions from new and modified equipment. The regulations, released on 12 May and due to take effect soon, represent the first step toward US president Barack Obama’s goal of cutting the oil and gas sector’s methane emissions by 40-45pc by 2025.
