Iraq secures more aid, as key Isis battle looms

A US-led international effort has generated pledges for $2.1bn of additional financial assistance for Iraq, which would help alleviate pressure on the oildependent government’s strained budget. The new pledge adds to a $3.6bn assistance package that the G7 major economies promised to Iraq in May, and complements a $5.34bn loan that Baghdad secured from the IMF this month.
