UK tries to stimulate development

The UK government repeated this month a promise of contracts to guarantee the tax relief that oil and gas firms will receive when they decommission North Sea assets, a move intended to stimulate the area’s asset market (WPA, 13 July, p4). “We recognise that companies work- ing in the North Sea work in a truly global market and that we have to work hard to attract their capital and their jobs,” finance minister George Osborne says.
