The Flavor and Extracts Manufacturers Association has released GRAS 27 (T-1; pages 16-17), which includes newly GRAS'd materials, as well as changes in the GRAS statuses of quinoline (FEMA# 3470), ethylene oxide (FEMA# 2433) and styrene (FEMA# 3233). The Expert Panel determined that quinolone requires additional data to continue the support of its GRAS status. Until such testing has been completed, quinolone has been removed from the FEMA GRAS list. The group also concluded that ethylene oxide and styrene have been removed from the FEMA GRAS list as "there is little evidence ... [they] are used for the technical effect of flavoring."
