Bids in for al-Shaheen joint venture

A total of five companies have submitted bids for a 30pc stake in a 25-year joint venture with Qatar’s state-owned QP to operate the 300,000 b/d al-Shaheen field, the country’s largest. The field’s current operator, Danish firm Maersk, is competing against Shell, Total, US independent ConocoPhillips and Chevron. QP expects to decide on its project partner in early August, it says. Shell chief executive Ben van Beurden met with Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and prime minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani on 26 April, the day that his firm submitted its bid.
