Petrobras looks outside the sub-salt

Brazilian state-controlled Petrobras could produce up to 100,000 b/d of oil from ultra-deepwater fields in the postsalt Sergipe-Alagoas basin offshore northeastern Brazil by 2018, chief executive Maria das Gracas Foster says. Petrobras, in a 60:40 joint venture with IBV Brasil, a joint venture between India’s BPCL and Videocon, has drilled 16 wells in Sergipe-Alagoas since 2008, with 13 showing traces of hydrocarbons. The exact size of the discoveries is being analysed, Petrobras says.
