Yield and wilting curve of hay from guinea grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.) cv. Coloniao IZ-1

In a field trial in Nova Odessa, Sao Paulo, Brazil, P. maximum cv. Coloniao IZ-1 was cut 51, 65, 79 or 93 days after sowing. Dry matter yield, fibre content and stem proportion increased with delay in cutting, while crude protein content and leaf proportion decreased. Wilting occurred rapidly, with hay production being possible about 26 h after cutting.
