Nuclear restarts weigh on Japanese LNG demand

Japan’s LNG imports will fall over the next two years as nuclear reactor restarts reduce utilities’ natural gas demand, government- affiliated think-tank the Institute of Energy Economics Japan (IEEJ) says in its latest outlook. LNG imports fall to 88.1mn t in the 2015-16 fiscal year to 31 March under the IEEJ’s middle scenario, down from a record high of 89.1mn t in 2014-15. Imports drop to 83.3mn t in 2016-17.
