Nigeria targets oil theft

Nigeria’s government has set aside $1bn to clamp down on oil theft and criminal damage to oil and gas infra-structure,and prosecute oil thieves.Th programme will include action to enhance security at pipelines and other infrastructure,resolve community-related issues,boost youth empower-ment in oil-producing areas and enhance oil companies’commitment to corporate social responsibilities,Presi-dent Goodluck Jonathan said in The Hague,the Netherlands,on 23 March after meeting Shell chief executive Ben van Beurden.
