Total has found gas and condensate in a sub-salt exploration well offshore Gabon, but not oil. The Diaman 1B exploration well in the deepwater Diaba block had been closely watched as an indicator of the region’s sub-salt potential and to see if Gabon could reverse years of crude production decline. Total’s partners in the block are US firms Cobalt International and Marathon Oil, and the Gabonese state. Cobalt is scheduled to release additional drilling results from its sub-salt drilling in blocks 20 and 21 offshore Angola before the end of this year.
