Aramco pilots unconventional gas

State-owned Saudi Aramco has begun to produce some of its unconventional gas reserves in pilot projects, paving the way for commercial production. Aramco launched its "Upstream Unconventional Gas Programme" last year, and early indications point to unconventional resources that may rival its conventional gas reserves of nearly 283 trillion ft3 (8 trillion m3). Pilot pro jects are under way "using high-end technology to extract unconventional gas, including tight gas and shale gas", the firm says.
