Court appeal delays InterOil takeover

The former chief executive of New York-listed independent InterOil, Phil Mulacek, has delayed the firm’s $2.48bn takeover by ExxonMobil by opposing the deal in Canada’s courts. The Supreme Court of Yukon approved the transaction, which would increase ExxonMobil’s LNG holdings in Papua New Guinea. But Mulacek has appealed against the decision and requested that the approval for the takeover should be withheld pending the outcome of his case.
