EPA highlights water risks from hydraulic fracturing

Hydraulic fracturing can adversely affect water resources at each stage of the well-stimulation technique, US environment agency the EPA says in a six-year study, finalised on 12 December. Hydraulic fracturing can impact water through above-ground spills, poorly constructed wells and the discharge of inadequately treated wastewater, it says.
